Professional Profile
I believe passionately that all children can be reached, and
that all children can learn. Inside every child is an artist, and exposure to
the Arts is a cornerstone of academic success.
Dedicated Retail Manager and Customer
Service leader with MAC Cosmetics; I consistently set the bar high for myself and
my team, leading by example, demonstrating exceptional customer service,
multitasking, anticipating guests needs and style-stepping accordingly while
maintaining a dual focus on exceeding goals and client relationship building,
all while fostering an atmosphere of fun and mutual respect among my staff. I
have consistently produced an increase in volume and exceeded sales goals. I
also take leading and motivating my team very seriously, and make helping my
artists grow into new roles within the company a top priority.
Recently completed my Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies- While
working at my present career, I have been working to complete my Liberal
Studies Degree, always with the intent of pursuing a post-baccalaureate
teaching certification. I have completed over 70 hours of live classroom
practicum, both observation and teaching at the secondary level, and am very
active at my children’s elementary school.
I have taught art classes in the summer program at Schemer Center for
the Arts, as well as giving private student art lessons. Teaching young
people to cultivate an appreciation for art and literature is my passion.
Professional Makeup Artist and
lifelong artist; a formally educated painter and makeup artist,
I do professional makeup for weddings, print, film media, and theatre. I also
continue to paint, working primarily in acrylic or gouache, while also
dabbling in various 3D media as well. My work has been shown at several
galleries in downtown Phoenix, and is currently showing at Salon Krush in Old
Town Scottsdale.
Server: For the last 10 years I have worked at
Casey Moore’s, a well known Tempe restaurant
and bar, doing high volume, fast-paced customer service.
Education, Honors, and Certifications
Arizona State University- Bachelors
Degree-Liberal
Studies- Total Cumulative GPA : 3.5
Tempe,
AZ Fall 2010- May 2012
My emphasis is in English Literature and
Humanities, and I am AEPA certified already to teach English. I chose this
teaching path rather than art, my first passion, because I felt that I would
have more employment opportunities as an English teacher (Literature being my
second passion), and also knowing that I have enough credit hours in art to
still eventually be AEPA certified in art as well. So ultimately, upon
graduation, I will able to be certified to teach both English and Art, or
Humanities. I have also been accepted into the prestigious Masters of
Education program at the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU for Fall
2012.
Rio Community College-Secondary Education Program
Tempe,
AZ 2007- 2010
Upon
returning to school, I knew I wanted to be an educator, so I started out with
the Rio Salado program, before transferring to ASU to complete my Bachelors.
It was through the Rio Program that I completed my practicum hours at Arcadia
High School. I ultimately decided to transfer to ASU however, because I felt
a degree from ASU would be more recognizable than a degree from North Central
Online University, which is Rio’s degree partner.
Arizona State University-Regents Scholar-Fine Arts
Tempe, AZ 2000-2003
I attended ASU on a full scholarship, completing 2.5 years of a
BFA with an emphasis in painting, before leaving school after the birth of my
daughter.
El Paso High School-
El
Paso, TX Class of 1999
My
high school experience was critical in shaping my decision to become a high
school teacher. I was fortunate to have some amazing teachers along the way
that really inspired and encouraged me, especially my art teacher and AP
English teacher. I was involved in the Theater department, was editor of the
Literary Magazine my senior year, and was always in Art Club and Academic
Decathlon. When I graduated I had full scholarship offers from The School of
Visual Arts in New York, Moore in Philadelphia, and Arizona State University.
Parsons School of Design-Summer Pre-College Fashion Design
Program
New York, NY. 1997
The
summer I was 16, I completed 9 college
credit hours in Fashion Illustration, Pattern Drafting, and Color Theory
through the Summer Program for high school students
Key Qualifications
I am a
working, practicing artist who has shown and sold at galleries locally, and
have
participated
in First Fridays since 2003.
Working as a
makeup artist, and working for MAC Cosmetics, I have participated in
Fashion Week,
Fashion’s Night Out, and numerous print and performance events.
I successfully
completed a 14 week practicum program through Rio Salado at Arcadia
High School in
Phoenix, where I paired with mentor teacher Shawn Huffman to teach 9th
grade and 11th grade English. It was a very positive experience-I
felt completely at ease and at
home in the classroom. I was able to create two PowerPoint unit lessons Mr. Huffman
still uses in class today.
